DARING FAUX FUR TREND. WHAT PETA DIDN'T TELL US

Today's post may come as a shock to some of you or maybe some of you already know. If you go by my past posts herehere or here, you'd know that I've never hidden my love for faux fur.

What many of you may not know is that I actually love real fur as well. Don't get me wrong, I love the job PETA is doing, in fact, I'm a contributor to the Green Peace movement going on more than 5 years. Yeah, that's my truth and I'm not apologetic about it.

While I make this bold statement please, I would also like to state as well that as a Master's degree holder, Corporate Social Responsibility comes to play in most of the things & issues I look out for in the Fashion Industry.

That said, while many of us are faux fur lovers, I'm here to also give you some bad news as well (sorry, I just found out myself & I think we've all got to know especially as Fashion bloggers)

Fur has not failed to take over the fashion scene & has been around for as long as I can remember. The soft feel of the fabric, the warmth & look of sophistication about it, who would say no? And while we consider ourselves très chic & fashionable for wearing fur, it remains the most divisive subject in the Fashion industry.

PETA made it very clear about it's fight for animal rights and how animals should be treated and on that I lend my full support, but they failed to also tell us that faux fur is made from non biodegradable chemical based synthetics. Alors, here comes the play of what was the whole point then in advocating for animal rights, pushing for the production of faux fur as an alternative to real fur  and leaving the general public ignorant of the fact that the alternative was causing more harm than good to the planet. I love the planet and I'm one of those people who try to play their part in this great big planet of ours as seen here.

Understanding that real fur costs an arm and a leg and does actually exist today and produced under the best conditions, the fur industry has lent ears to assuring transparency, equitability & legal control, it's also up to us as fashion buffs to be ecologically responsible for the fur we wear. To know more on the fur trade, read more herehere and here
The fur spotted in this post is actually faux fur, and I'm more conscious of the fact that if in the event that I decide to let go of it, it's probably going to end up in a land fill somewhere and I'm torn with guilt about it.

How would you dispose of your old faux fur pieces?

Cos the truth be told I don't know and I would really want to be able to dispose of these fine pieces of fashion in the most ecological way possible.

I decided to pair my faux fur gilet with a black body con dress styled here, OTK boots from Zalando.
My fav part of this look has to be these beautiful Anastasia Black & Affirmative Rose gold sunnies from Hashtag sunglasses which you could purchase at a discount of 20% using code "Juliet" and my one of a kind leather bag seen here and here

Let me know your thoughts as well in the comment section and je vous aime très fort.

Bisous,

xoxo

  7. Interesting post! Everything seems always to have two sides and it's so important that we are aware of what we are buying and the impact on the planet. I do not have real or faux furs right now, but I'm sure I will never buy a real one.
Thank you for sharing your thoughts!

  8. Thanks for sharing your insight on fur and faux fur! Well I guess the best thing to do would be to keep that vest and not dispose it, since it looks absolutely gorgeous on you anyway!
